Winter in Canada means your vehicle sometimes needs a little extra help. In colder climates, a block heater is essential for the longevity of your engine. However, many new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles don't come with them as a standard feature.
Can’t find your Dodge's block heater cord? Adrian at Redwater Dodge shows you where to locate the block heater on Dodge models to ensure easy winter starting.
Locating your plug can be tricky depending on your engine configuration. Here is exactly where to look:
On the new Dodge Durango, the block heater cord is located on the driver’s side of the engine bay.
Unlike some SUVs where the cord is tucked near the radiator, the Durango’s cord is usually tucked away near the side housing.
Note that the Durango battery is located under the passenger seat, so don't be alarmed if you don't see the battery terminals immediately next to your block heater cord!
Q1: Do all new CDJR vehicles come with a block heater?
A1: Most of our inventory at Redwater Dodge is spec’d for cold climates and includes a block heater. However, it is always best to check your Window Sticker or ask your salesperson to verify the "Cold Weather Group" package is included.
Q2: I found the cord, but it's too short. What should I do?
A2: Many factory block heater cords are zip-tied near the engine to keep them away from moving parts during transport. You may need to carefully snip a plastic tie to extend the cord to your front grille.
Q3: How long should I plug in my Dodge Durango?
A3: For maximum efficiency, you only need to plug in your vehicle for 2–4 hours before starting. Using a heavy-duty outdoor timer can help save on electricity while ensuring your engine is warm when you need it.
Q4: Is it okay to drive with the block heater plugged in?
A4: No. Always ensure the cord is unplugged and tucked securely away from fans or belts before starting the engine.
Q5: What happens if I can’t find my cord?
A5: If you aren't sure if your vehicle is equipped or you simply can't find where the cord is tucked, stop by our service bay! Our team will help you locate it or provide a quote for a block heater installation.
